There is a massive demand for hotels especially in Glasgow. Will Marriott
reveal there plans this year or keep us waiting a few more years and
will we met the demand or fall short as 2014 creeps nearer.

It has been said Glasgow is short of some 3,000 hotel beds. There are currently upwards of 3,500 in the pipeline.

The Commonwealth Games has served to concentrate minds and establish a clear timeframe, depends how well the tourism potential is developed but I suspect the SECC expansions will be the man engine of change.

The Marriott site is very early doors. The architect has expressed desire to delineate the waterloo St onramp with a series of "events" (towers) rising up to 30 stories. But this is speculative far future stuff that wont be detailed for a number of years yet. The first stage is demolition of the "megastructure" enveloping dalriada, Columba and Davaar. This will be the most significant change thus far.

Thanks for the comment Gleegie, i did like the part when you said Tower's sounds interesting do you think it will be after the Common Wealth Games or before that will project may start. But this is only as you said speculative.

Prefer them as they are. Do the residents want the balconies enclosed?

Nooooooo........all the modelling, depth of balcony and overall design composition has gone.

I've drawn these buildings many times, every time finding something new, what a pity

I can't speak for the residents but the intention is to increase the liveable floorspace of each flat. The concrete panels were showing signs of deterioration and the blocks need resealed.

I'm not generally a fan of balconies but agree these had sculptural quality.

These three building remind me of when the Pinnacle building got re cladding
before they looked like what the Dalriada, Columba and Davaar block of council flats and also I'm sure they could make them private but people wouldn't be happy. And what's going to happen to the offices below the need
some series work.

Anderston Centre may have whatever flaws (I don't know) but as a piece of Modernist architectural formalism it does have some of the proportional power and modelled beauty of Corb's Marseilles housing block. A simple re-clad job will, indeed, kill this all stone dead (kill the concrete dead, perhaps Wink). Someone, somewhere, please take care...
I live in the Pinnacle Building illustrated further down the thread here. I was under the impression that, in its original state, it was regarded as a monstrosity. However, it happened to be one of my favourite buildings in Glasgow. The current over-clad is indeed bland but, just for balance... see these wee glassy bits that were added onto the original and 'increase the interior floor space' for people lucky as me to get one of those apartments on the corner. Well, from an interior perspective, I have to say that these glass additions are by far the best feature... they transform otherwise rather claustrophobic units into something expansive... spacious.
A way into thinking of how to tackle the Anderston centre, perhaps?

Well if they look anything like the building above i will be very happy these flats are part of Glasgow mini skyline and sadly you don't get to see future into the city center where you enjoy a more modern Glasgow.
I still think the cladding could have a bit more zing and each have a different design for the cladding plus add a floor at the top for apartments.

Can anyone well me why they have dropped the height from 17 floors to only 9. I thought Glasgow had a lack of hotel rooms.

The design has see-sawed in floors from 19->13->17->9

Vital statistics of the last iteration...
17 floors
250 beds
CDA

and current...
9 floors (double height foyer and plant)
179 beds
EPR

Why is that so? Change in architect? New development partner? Arena troubles? Credit Crunch? Cost? Competition? Speculation.

There's a double height foyer space and mechanical plant housing on the roofspace.

The multi storey car park is a separate development.
