Burns Corridor 2009: I'm still trying to understand how, NEW CUMNOCK, a town at the heart of BURNS CORRIDOR could have been shortlisted in the Carbuncle 2009 Awards, especially when it was the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns birth. Surely the local authority pulled out all the stops to promote tourism within the Corridor, doing all that was humanly possible to bring SUSTAINABLE TOURISM to Burns Country?
What has changed along New Cumnock main street?
Has the Carbuncle Award helped or hindered?

What has changed along New Cumnock main street?
Has the Carbuncle Award helped or hindered?

The last of the three cooperative buildings on the main street, Castle, closed down. This building sits next to the Crown Hotel which closed down around 5 years ago.

Plenty of ideas going around but the community needs help.
Make the Carbuncle Award mean something.

Look at the Cranford hotel in Girvan, Ayrshire: It was transformed into a youth complex by the community. Kids have somewhere to go. The place looks better than if it were just boarded up and left to fall under the vandals' tags. Crime is down. Respect. http://www.bebo.com/Z1YouthBar

Could the Crown Hotel do the same, with help?
